Will You Help Launch a Healthy Food & Travel Show?

Healthy Food & Travel Show with Modern-Day Nomad Nathan Agin

Greetings from La Monarca Bakery & Cafe on Wilshire Blvd. in Santa Monica! (They have wifi, and I’ve done well staying away from all the baked goods… mostly. ;)

After initially putting my show idea out to the world, I came across a contest from GoodMaker (I think the same day I published that blog post!), and thought, “could I put together a more polished version of a pitch video in 4 days to make their entry deadline?”

The answer was: YES!

(watch the new video here and vote for the idea!)

Now, this show (and me!) is in the running to meet with the Food Network, the Awesome Foundation, and win $1000 through GOOD Maker, a new online platform for catalyzing social change.

If selected, I will use the funds to shoot the pilot episode in New Orleans in October 2012!

GOOD has asked the community to submit ideas on how to “make food more awesome,” and has invited the public to choose a winner! (this is where YOU come in! :)

More About The Concept

When you travel, do you know where to go for healthy food?

In this new show, discover where to eat well when you’re on the road, experience the local cuisine in a healthy way, meet local farmers and chefs, and learn how to easily prepare an amazing recipe at home!

Just about every travel program shows you how to go crazy and indulge when you’re in a new place; it’s time for the other side to be revealed! Whether you’re visiting or local, discover how easy it can be to eat healthy!

This work is important! —Katharine Kagel, Chef/Owner, , Santa Fe, NM

Most people do try to be healthy when they’re at home, yet find it challenging to maintain their habits on the road. This show will help people know exactly where to go!

At the end of the show, we’ll gather a group of locals—those who may lack a solid nutritional education—and with the guidance of one of the chefs or farmers we’ve met, we’ll all prepare a healthy meal together.

Fast and processed foods are now available everywhere, and we are all fighting an uphill battle to eat healthy, wherever we go.

The Center for Disease Control recently released their 2011 stats on obesity in the US: 39 states have rates of 25% or more (that’s 1 in 4 Americans!).

Obesity-related conditions include heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes, and certain types of cancer; these conditions are among the leading causes of preventable death.

It’s time to help people find the HEALTHIEST food possible!

Cafe Reconcile, New Orleans

Louisiana ranks 2nd for obesity at 33%, and while New Orleans is known for many things, healthy food isn’t usually one of them—and yet, it’s there. I know: I’ve been there and found it.

This will be an eye-opening first show and I’m excited to make it a reality!

Thanks for your help and support!
